New Features in the Library Catalog
What?
Why?
- Because it's nice to explore new things once in a while
- Because it's sometimes more convenient to have the info about a resource you've found in something you always have with you (like your cell phone), so you can look for that book when you have a bit more time
- Because most people don't browse library shelves any more, and the tag clouds and links to similar books provide a way to bring back some serendipity into information seeking (serendipity = finding something that's really exciting when you weren't even looking for it)
- Because tags added by users, used along with terms assigned by librarians, together make resources easier to find
Where?
- The text messaging appears on every single record display
- The tag clouds and links to similar books appear only on single record displays for resources that have an ISBN that's in the LibraryThing database
