Tag Cloud and Similar Books FAQs
Why don't I see tags or similar book links on the resource I've found?
Tags and similar book links only display for books that have an ISBN (International Standard Book Number) that is present in the LibraryThing database.
What about accessibility?
LibraryThing widgets are designed to work with screen readers, screen magnifiers, and other assistive technologies, and are coded to meet or exceed government accessibility guidelines.
Are there any privacy issues?
No personal information is ever provided to LibraryThing. When you browse the WWU catalog, your browser's JavaScript interpreter sends the LibraryThing server the ISBN for the book you are looking at and (depending on circumstance) the tag. But LibraryThing is not provided any patron data of any kind. The data included in LibraryThing enhancements are based on anonymous, aggregated user content. For more information, please refer to LibraryThing's privacy policy.
Where does the data come from?
All of the tags and recommendations come from LibraryThing.com, a book cataloging website. Over 260,000 LibraryThing members have added more than 23 million tags, 245 thousand reviews, and 2.8 million ratings to over 18 million books.
What are tags?
Tags are key words and labels used by regular people to categorize books.
How does the "Tag Browser" work?
Use the Tag Browser as another way to find books in this library. Click on a tag to find other books with that tag. The space on the right shows you the items that match the tag. The items are not sorted alphabetically, but by its relevance to the tag.
Why do I sometimes see weird tags?
The tags here come from LibraryThing.com. LibraryThing members have applied over seventeen million tags to their books. Because people are different, you will occasionally run across a tag that's irrelevant, wrong, or just plain strange.
What about dirty words?
The tags have been cleaned up to remove personal tags, bad words, etc.
Can I add my own tags?
At present, tags can only be added on the LibraryThing web site.
