This year's exhibit of new acquisitions for the
Ford Collection features examples of 20th century American storytelling, fishing art, and fishing
club histories. Highlights include compilations of the famed "Dud Dean" stories by A. J. MacDougal,
concerning the exploits, wit, and wisdom of a fictional New England fisher-philosopher, works by
Ben Ames Williams, Corey Ford, and Dana Lamb, and, for something completely different, Summer's Salmon
by "A Rusty Rat," an erotic spoof about unexpected happenings in an Atlantic salmon fishing camp.
Artist fly-fishers are represented by works by Winslow Homer, W. J. Schaldach, and P. S. Corbin.
Rounding out the exhibit are beautifully printed histories of fishing clubs such as the venerable
Tihonet Club of Cape Cod and the Henryville Flyfishers of Philadelphia. A 12 page brochure containing
extensive annotations by Paul Ford accompanies the exhibit.
On display in the accompanying table case are a variety of bamboo fly fishing rods and antique reels held by The Fly Fishing
Collection in Special Collections. Also featured is information about the course "The Art, Science, and Ethics of Flyfishing,"
offered this summer (now in its fifth year) as Environmental Sciences 397T by Dr. Leo Bodensteiner and Steve Meyer.
