North Entrance - Western Libraries

Support our Renovation Project

It's official! Western Libraries is relocating its Special Collections Department to a larger, brighter, newly-renovated space on the sixth floor. The Department's new home will feature a greatly improved research area, climate-controlled storage, an attractive conference room, expanded work areas for processing and digital projects, lockers for researcher use, and generously-sized display cases for exhibits. The move will improve user access to our collections, and provide a comfortable, attractive environment for study and research.

Although the renovation will be completed in early 2010, we need your help to purchase furniture for our new space. If you'd like to help with this exciting project, use this online pledge form to make a gift. In the comment field, be sure to indicate that your gift is in support of the Special Collections Renovation.

Visit the New Location for Special Collections page to learn more about the project or click on the thumbnails below to view larger images of the new space.

Honor with Books Program

Gifts of $50 or more to the library through the 'Honor with Books' program are recognized by the placement of a nameplate into a new book being added to the Library's collection. Your Honor acknowledgement will also appear in a note for the book record in the library's online catalog. Participate in the 'Honor with Books' program and make your gift to Western Libraries.

Music Library

The best way to support our Music Library is to join the Friends of the Music Library with a donation of $25 or more. The Friends group offers its members many exciting ways to participate, including the opportunity to provide direct support of the Library's music collections, as well as volunteer assistance for Music Library events. To join the Friends group, please use this online pledge form. In the comment field, be sure to indicate your gift is in support of the Music Library. If you have music materials you would like to donate please contact Music Librarian Marian Ritter at (360) 650-3696, or via email at marian.ritter@wwu.edu.

Library Endowments

An endowment is a specially invested fund that provides financial support in perpetuity. Only a percentage of the interest income from an endowment is spent. The principal remains forever intact, and is increased over time through the addition of a portion of the earned income.

Your gift of $20,000 or more will allow us to establish a new endowment for the Libraries which would bear your name or the name of someone you wish to honor. Your endowment would be used according to your wishes. You may designate the endowment for a specific purpose such as purchasing fiction reading materials or you may specify that the endowment be used at the Libraries' discretion in the area most needed. For more information about establishing an endowment for the Library, please contact Development Director Thea Kleiber at (360) 650-2273, or via email at thea.kleiber@wwu.edu.

Special Collections

Special Collections welcomes gifts of materials - including books, manuscripts, or realia - that enhance its existing collections and holdings. We will work with prospective donors to develop a mutually acceptable Deed of Gift Agreement for their donated items. Materials appropriate for inclusion in the Rare Book Collection, the Campus History Collection and The Western Collection are especially welcome. For more information on making a gift of materials please contact Marian Alexander at (360) 650-3193, or via email at marian.alexander@wwu.edu.

The Center for Pacific Northwest Studies

The Center for Pacific Northwest Studies welcomes donations in the form of financial support, or materials. The Center collects material representing significant developments in the region. Of particular interest are materials documenting the economic development, cultural and social history, and other unique and historically significant trends. To make a financial contribution, please use this online pledge form. To make a gift of materials, please contact Ruth Steele at (360) 650-7747, or via email at ruth.steele@wwu.edu.

Huxley Map Library

Contributions to the Huxley Map Library endowment help sustain the library’s outstanding, Nationally-significant collection of maps, atlases, aerial photographs and other materials. To donate to the endowment, please use this online pledge form. To make a gift of cartographic related materials, please contact Rob Lopresti at (360) 650-3342, or via email at robert.lopresti@wwu.edu.

Gifts of Library Materials

Western Libraries welcomes donations of books, journals, manuscripts, and other materials. Although we appreciate all donations, occasionally some gift items are not appropriate for our collections. In such cases, and with the prior permission of the donor, we are able to generate funds by offering these materials in our book sale. Money raised in this way is used to purchase new materials needed by our current students and faculty. If you would like to donate a small number of items, please fill out the online donor form. For larger gifts, please contact our Collection Development Librarian, Jeff Purdue, at (360) 650-7750, or via email at jeff.purdue@wwu.edu.
