Linking to articles in full-text databases

The Library will create an electronic course reserves list for you. If you want to create your own links to articles, use one of these methods:

You may link to full-text articles from Blackboard, your syllabus or a webpage. Simply capturing the location from the address bar of your browser will NOT work. It may appear to work initially, but the links are not permanent, and are not guaranteed to last through the quarter. Use one of the choices below to create permanent links to articles.

WARNING: Publishers sometimes end contracts with database vendors. When a contract ends, content is pulled from the database. If this happens to a publication you are linking to, articles may disappear from the database.

Use Find it!

  • When you are searching through databases, use the button to find articles available full-text online.
  • When full-text is available, there will also be an option to "Get a persistent url to this article". Click on this option for further instructions.

NOTE: The link will provide access the Find-it window, which may offer multiple ways to get to the fulltext. It will work for off-campus users. Make sure you check the link to full-text before posting it as some resources only provide a link to the journal or the journal issue, and this may be confusing for your students.

Use a DOI

Use Publisher provided linking

  • Your final url would look something like:
    http://ezproxy.library.wwu.edu/login?url=http://springerlink.metapress.com/openurl.asp? genre= article&issn=0236-5294&volume=105&issue=4&spage=285
