Suggestion: I think it should be okay for laptops to include sound. The stationary computers let students to plug in a headphone, why not a laptop?
Our Response: The speakers on the PCs have been disconnected. On these systems it is easy to do, leaving ONLY the headphone jack available for sound.
Enabling sound on the laptops means that the internal speakers on the laptop will produce sound when there are no headphones plugged in. Since these laptops can easily be transported into a quiet area, this isn't really a good idea if the library wishes to remain respectful of the individuals who desire to use those areas for quiet study.
Thanks for your comments.
Suggestion: I was curious if Independent Learning students could check out laptops. ... I ask this question because I'm also allowed to use the computer labs at school, MyWestern, etc.
Suggestion:The library laptop loan page should be updated. the info desk no longer uses the armada laptops. they have 20 brand new (Gateways?) i believe. just to let you know!
Suggestion: Can you guys enable audio for the headphone jack on all of the laptops in the library? I can understand the idea behind disabling the audio on the laptops (after all, it is the library), but, disabling the audio from the headphone jack is just unecessary. Many people have to do PowerPoint presentations for classroom projects, and, by disabling sound from the headphone jack you are limiting their ability to properly review their creation. I can think of a bunch of other reasons why the headphone jack should work on laptops, but I will leave it at the above mentioned. The speakers however, I agree with being disabled.
Suggestion: I think you need to get more laptops, and if not, provide WORD on the computers in the library. It never fails that there aren't enough laptops to go around, especially when there are only a handful of them and a ton of people who want them. Use the technology fee to buy more because it is ridiculous that people have to wait for a really long time to check one out.
