Corporate Affiliations / Lexis Nexis Corporate Affiliations (CA) is a directory of public and private information. Includes basic company information (contact info, location, SIC/NAICS), a financial snapshot, executives, and a corporate tree (parents company, subsidiaries, etc.) CA does not have analysis or a narrative, but it is a great place to find information on privately-held companies.

Hoover's handbooks / Hoovers Location: Various
Hoover’s provides a brief overview of a company, and includes company strategy, reputation, ownership, where the stock is traded, ticker symbol, the fiscal year-end period, and the address, telephone number and web site address of the company. Brief histories help provide a fuller picture of each organization, and provide lists of principal products, brand names, subsidiaries, and joint ventures, and information on key officers. In addition, Hoover’s provides financial information: sales, net income, income as a percent of sales, stock price, price/earnings ratio, number of employees, and key competitors, and market share /ranking. A graph shows ten year’s of stock price history (when available).

Check Catalog This multi-volume set provides a thorough overview of a company’s direction over time, there is often a main entry, which is updated in subsequent volumes. Most companies chosen for inclusion in this directory have a minimum of $100 million in annual sales, and are considering leaders in their industry or geographical location. About 10% of the companies represented are private or non-profit. For this reason, you usually do not find small companies in this directory. Entries typically run three or four pages, but may be longer, and may provide a brief bibliography of books or articles about the company. The entries often include significant information on the brands the company produces.

Check Catalog Widely known as "The Advertiser Red book" this contains data on over 25,000 companies that spend a minimum of $200,000 on national and/or regional advertising. The directory also includes a list of the 200 national leading advertisers as well as leading advertisers in 11 different media categories. You can use this directory to answer a number of questions such as: Which companies produce a particular product? Which companies place advertising directly rather than through an agency? Some advertising budgets are supplied but they may or may not include direct mail promotions. The index volume has indexes by product categories, state, brand name, SIC and executive personal name.
Wand / Wand, Inc. This site is a worldwide search engine for over 60,000 products and services and over 800,000 companies worldwide. It only contains brief directory information.

Check Catalog The results of a survey of over 19,0000 US households. The survey measures usage of products and services by brand name, media they use, and characteristics of the respondents. Results are cross-tabulated to report demographic and psychographic characteristics of individuals who use each product. It is available on a Reference computer station within the library. Use is limited to WWU Students, Faculty and Staff Only.

A fourth section lists consumer magazines and direct marketing lists targeted to each lifestyle interest.

Epinions Epinions allows for comparison shopping information but also contains reviews of those products from other consumers.
Household product database / National Library of Medicine Information in the Household Products Database is taken from a variety of publicly available sources, including brand-specific labels and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) prepared by manufacturers. The database links over 7,000 consumer brands to health effects and allows scientists and consumers to research products based on chemical ingredients.
