    This gives a 2-3 page overview of major companies in the world. It includes a list of major competitors for each company. It is a 3 volume set. 
  • Hoover's.com / Hoovers
    Background information and financial data on public and private companies. This site includes links to Web sites, a register of thousands of companies on the Web and a directory of more than 50,000 public and private world-wide companies. It also includes quotes, stock charts, financials, key officers and competitors, press releases and Securities and Exchange Commission filings. Hoover's Online is searchable by company name, ticker symbol, keyword or last name. Not all the information is free of charge.
  • International directory of company histories / Antelman, Gretchen ... [et al.].

    This multi-volume set provides a thorough overview of a company’s direction over time, there is often a main entry, which is updated in subsequent volumes. Most companies chosen for inclusion in this directory have a minimum of $100 million in annual sales, and are considering leaders in their industry or geographical location. About 10% of the companies represented are private or non-profit. For this reason, you usually do not find small companies in this directory. Entries typically run three or four pages, but may be longer, and may provide a brief bibliography of books or articles about the company. The entries often include significant information on the brands the company produces.

    Information in this site includes competitors of IPOs. You can search all IPOs that have been filed.
Competition (Antitrust) Law and Regulations
  • Antitrust case browser / Becker, Anthony
    This contains both an alphabetical and chronological listing and summary of antitrust cases found on the web. Many are historica, dating from before 1910 through the 1990's. There are a few from cases from 2004.
Competitiveness of Companies (Clusters)
  • Cluster and cluster development / Harvard Business School
    Clusters are geographic concentrations of "interrelated suppliers or companies." The Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness at the Harvard Business School lists describes cluster related projects and provides links to key readings and resources.
Competitiveness of Countries
  • Africa competitiveness report / World Economic Forum

    The Africa Competitiveness Report highlights the prospects for growth, obstacles to improving competitiveness and the need to accelerate the pace of economic change. It presents an analysis of over 100 indicators and reveals regional trends and performance in 25 African economies. For example, it presents data on: corruption the impact on business of HIV/AIDS infrastructure access to financing.
  • Competitive alternatives / KPMG
    This analyzes business costs in the G-7 countries. It looks at 27 areas of business costs including labor, transportation, and utility costs.
  • Doing business database / World Bank/ International Finance Corporation
    The Doing Business Database provides objective measures of business regulations and their enforcement. The Doing Business indicators are comparable across 145 economies. They indicate the regulatory costs of business and can be used to analyze specific regulations that enhance or constrain investment, productivity and growth.
  • European competitiveness and transition report, 2001-2002 : ratings of accession progress, competitiveness, and economic restructuring of European and transition economies / World Economic Forum

    This identifies impediments to economic growth around the globe. It gives the competitiveness indexes, looks at selected issues of competitiveness such as setoral trade, and economic creativity, and provides country profiles and data comparing countries against certain benchmarks.

    This highlights the prospects for growth in the Latin American region and reveals obstacles to competitiveness. It provides strengths and weaknesses of the leading economies in Latin America.
  • National Competitiveness Council / National Competitiveness Council Secretariat
    The National Competitiveness Council (NCC) is a social partnership body, which reports on key competitiveness issues facing the Irish economy together with recommendations on policy actions required to enhance Ireland's competitive position. Each year the NCC publishes the two-volume Annual Competitiveness Report. Volume One, Benchmarking Ireland’s Performance, is a collection of statistical indicators of Ireland’s competitiveness performance in relation to 16 other economies and the OECD and EU averages. Volume Two, Ireland’s Competitiveness Challenge, uses this information along with the latest research to outline the main challenges to Ireland’s competitiveness and the policy responses required to meet them.
