    This four volume work discussed population dynamics, and an analysis of population growth, change and structure to illustrate demographic changes. The final volume looks at population theories and policies.

Each section is introduced with a substantial bibliographic essay highlighting the chief works, the contours of the field, and the directions it appears to be taking. It is useful for historical comparisons.

    This comprehensive directory offers easy access to social, economic and general data, especially time series. In the country lists are mainly links to banks, statistical offices and government agencies. The topic lists include links to organizations, associations and other commercial sites.
  • Social Explorer
    Dedicated to providing easy access to demographic information for the United States, this site provides complete historical census reference as well as current information and 10 year projections. In addition to the many links it contains, it enables one to make maps and reports and visually analyze and understand the demography of the United States.
  • World Almanac
    A reference source for biographies, encyclopedia entries, facts, and statistics. Includes the World Almanac and Book of Facts, The World Almanac of the U.S.A., The World Almanac of U.S. Politics, The World Almanac for Kids; and The World Almanac Knowledge Source.
  • World Factbook
    Location: Haggard 2 -Reference G122.U56a

    The World Fact Book is an annual published by the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States with basic almanac-style information about the various countries of the world. The Fact Book provides a two- to three-page summary of the demographics, location, telecommunications capacity, government, industry, military capability, etc, of all US-recognized countries and territories in the world. Includes maps.

    Academic Search Premier provides full text for nearly 4,650 serials, including full text for more than 3,600 peer-reviewed titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,000 titles. Covers most academic areas including biological and medical sciences, physics, chemistry, economics, communications, computer sciences, engineering, language and linguistics, arts and literature, ethnic studies, and women's studies. This database is updated on a daily basis via EBSCOhost.

  • POPLINE (Population Index) / Information & Knowledge for Optimal Health (INFO) Project
    • Dates covered: 1970-current
    POPLINE (POPulation information onLINE) provides international coverage of population, family planning, and related health issues, including family planning technology and programs, fertility, and population law and policy. Some topics are covered with specific reference to Developing countries. These include demography, HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases, maternal and child health, primary health care communication, and population and environment. Primarily English language articles but international in scope.
  • Population Index

    Population Index is the primary reference tool to the world's population literature. It presents an annotated bibliography of recently published books, journal articles, working papers, and other materials on population topics. This website provides a searchable and browsable database containing 46,035 abstracts of demographic literature published in Population Index in the period 1986-2000. Available online and in print.

  • Current population survey / United States. Bureau of the Census
    This monthly survey of about 50,000 households has been conducted for over 50 years. It is the primary source of labor force characteristics, including information on employment, unemployment, earnings, hours of work and other indicators. The data can be obtained by a variety of characteristics, including age, sex, race, marital status and educational attainment, by occupation, industry, and class of worker.

  • Ersys
    Using maps, charts, reports, and relevant links, Ersys covers over 2600 US cities with information on demographics, environmental factors, economic indicators, housing stats, media (newspaper, television, and radio), schools, transportation, local contacts, etc.
  • Right Site / Easy Analytic Software, Inc.
    The Right Site offers both fee-based special reports and some free compilations of Census Bureau and other government data. Free census data is from the 2000 census; updates are available for a fee. You may search for data by ZIP code, county, metropolitan areas, states, and so on. Free reports include "Top 100 significant variables: report and analysis", various compilations of data on income, housing, education, employment, "quality of life" and so on. Much of the data is given in the form of proprietary "EASI" ranks or " EASI" scores, or in an Index value, where the U.S. average = 100.

  • Find-it! Washington / Washington State Library
    An online search tool developed to help citizens find government information. Web documents from around the state, government publications available at public and state libraries, and government information and services maintained by the State Dept. of Information Services are included.
  • Washington State yearbook

    This Yearbook has more than "300 pages of key reference information about the cities and towns, counties, special districts, regional authorities, state government, and congressional delegation of Washington State.     This United Nations publication includes information on social factors such as age distribution, household composition and life expectancy for more than 200 countries. It does NOT include economic or household income data. It DOES include information on the reliability of the data it includes. Some historical data is provided, so this can be useful for studying trends over past decades. Unfortunately this is often 2 years behind in publishing.
  • Nationmaster / Nationmaster
    This provides extensive background to countries and allows you to compare countries graphically or through charts. Its data is drawn from the CIA World Factbook, United Nations, World Health Organization, World Bank, World Resources Institute, UNESCO, UNICEF and OECD.
  • Population Reference Bureau / Population Reference Bureau
    This bureau provides free world wide data and statistics for the areas of Environment, HIV/AIDS, Population Trends and Reproductive Health.
