Find Books and more in our Library
Use the Library Catalog to locate materials within our collection. The Library Catalog provides location, call number and bibliographic information for the books, journals, newspapers, selected government documents, microforms and other media, as well as online or electronic resources owned or accessed by the Western Libraries.

- Subject Headings
To locate further materials, use the following Subject Headings in the Western Libraries Online Catalog. Under the Subject Heading "terrorism" alone, there are pages of subdivisions. It is recommended that you also search these terms in Summit. In addition to the Subject Headings listed below, we recommend that you also use the Keyword search option with these and related terms. We are continually adding materials to the library collection, so the newest additions may not be represented in this guide, although we will make every effort to keep this up to date.

Internet Resources
- Academic Info: International Terrorism Studies
This independent Internet subject directory "aims to be the premier educational gateway to online college and research level Internet resources." The Terrorism Studies section includes links to directories, centers and agencies, and conventions, laws and treaties pertaining to global terrorism. In addition, links to information on bioterrorism (anthrax) and human rights are provided, as well as a digital library of global terrorism resources. Also included are special sections on September 11, 2001 and the military response, and links to sites about the Taliban, al-Qaida and bin Laden.
- Federal Bureau of Investigation
The FBI's web site includes press releases, links to "most wanted" lists and the latest investigative information about terrorism, as well as a form for reporting terrorist activity.
- Global Terrorism Database
Maintained by the University of Maryland, "the Global Terrorism Database (GTD) is an open-source database including information on terrorist events around the world since 1970 (currently updated through 2004). Unlike many other event databases, the GTD includes systematic data on international as well as domestic terrorist incidents that have occurred during this time period and now includes almost 80,000 cases. For each GTD incident, information is available on the date and location of the incident, the weapons used and nature of the target, the number of casualties, and -- when identifiable -- the identity of the perpetrator."
- Government information on terrorism
A very comprehensive collection of government information on the Internet hosted by the Illinois Institute of Technology, Paul Galvin Library.
- The MIPT Terrorism Knowledge Base
"The MIPT Terrorism Knowledge Base is sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security and the National Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism (MIPT). The TKB is a one-stop resource for comprehensive research on domestic and international terrorism, with information on terrorist incidents, terrorism-related court cases, and terrorist groups and leaders. The TKB features a suite of sophisticated analytical tools, available free of charge to researchers, policymakers, journalists, emergency response personnel, and the general public."
- Report on terrorism and human rights
Organization of American States, Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. Washington, D.C. : General Secretariat, Organization of American States, 2002.
- The Terrorism Research Center
"The Terrorism Research Center is dedicated to informing the public of the phenomena of terrorism and information warfare. This site features essays and thought pieces on current issues, as well as links to other terrorism documents, research and resources."
- Terrorism resources
Dudley Knox Library Naval Postgraduate School - Features a number of full-text Bibliographies, Directives, E-Lists, Reports, Documents, Articles, and a wonderfully organized selection of websites.

Specific Topics
- Bioterrorism
This aspect of terrorism involves using biological agents (viruses and bacteria) on populations of innocent people.
- Cyberterrorism
This relatively new area of terrorism, includes works that deal with attacks on technology, particularly computer systems.
- Ecoterrorism
The focus here is on terrorism committed in behalf of environmental ideals.
- Law & Terrorism
This section includes works that focus on the legal aspects of terrorism.
- Nuclear Terrorism
Included here are works on terrorism targeted at nuclear sites or involving threats to use weapons of mass destruction, and works about government response to these threats.
- State-Sponsored Terrorism
The focus here is on terrorism committed under the auspices of national governments, internally or internationally, as well as on acts of violence committed by or against political constituencies.

API Indexes journals covering cultural, economic, political & social change. Coverage is international and interdisciplinary indexing over 300 alternative, radical and left periodicals, newspapers and magazines. Includes selected abstracts from research journals. - ATLA (American Theological Library Association) Religion
Dates covered: 1946-current
An index to religious and theological literature, containing thousands of citations to journal articles, essays in multi-author works, and book reviews from three print indexes: Religion Index One, Religion Index Two, and Index to Book Reviews in Religion. Site License.

- Biological and Medical Sciences
Dates covered: 1982-current
This interdisciplinary database offers abstracts and citations to a wide range of research in biomedicine, biotechnology, zoology and ecology, and some aspects of agriculture and veterinary science. Supporting over two dozen areas of expertise, this CSA database provides access to literature from over 6000 sources including serials, conference proceedings, technical reports, monographs and selected books and patents. - Business & Industry
Business & Industry is a database that provides multi-industry, international access to company, industry, market, and product information in over 1000 leading trade magazines, newsletters, general business newspapers, and international business dailies. Coverage is from 1994 to present. 4 Simultaneous Users. [Resource no longer available]
- NOTE:
For articles with regard to the effect of terrorism on business and the economy. Also contains information on cyberterrorism.
- EBSCO - Academic Search Complete
Academic Search Complete is a scholarly, multi-disciplinary full-text database, with more than 5,500 full-text periodicals, including more than 4,600 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 9,500 journals and a total of more than 10,000 publications including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc. The database features PDF content going back as far as 1887, with the majority of full text titles in native (searchable) PDF format. Searchable cited references are provided for nearly 1,000 journals.
- EconLit
Dates covered: 1969-current
EconLit contains citations, with abstracts, of articles from over 400 economics journals. In addition, subject indexing and abstracts of books and dissertations are included. Corresponding print sources are the Journal of Economic Literature, Index of Economic Articles, and the Cambridge University Press Abstracts of Working Papers in Economics. Site License.
- Environmental Universe
Includes Environment Abstracts (1970-current ), which indexes more than 1,000 journals, plus government publications and conference papers. Many of the pre-2004 indexed publications can be found full-text in the Envirofiche collection, in Wilson Library 2West. Other databases, all full-text, include Environmental News (1975-current), Environmental Law Reviews (1981-current), etc. Site License. [Resource no longer available]

- ERIC - Cambridge Scientific Abstracts
Dates covered: 1966-current
ERIC is the largest education database in the world providing indexing and abstracts of all types of materials including journal articles, government documents, books, dissertations, and unpublished materials such as curriculum guides, research reports and conference papers in education and related topics in the social sciences. Many ERIC documents published between 1993 and 2004 are now available online full text. Most ERIC documents published from 1966-1993 are available in the ERIC Microfiche collection on Wilson 2 West.
