U.S. Government Publications in Western Libraries
Wilson Library has hundreds of thousands of U.S. government documents. Most of those published since 1976 are in the WWU Online Catalog. For earlier publications you may need to search the Monthly Catalog of U.S. Government Publications, which is available in the Government Information Services area of Wilson Library.
Most of the U. S. government documents collection are shelved 2nd floor of Haggard Hall. The U.S. documents are arranged according to the Sudoc system, the classification number system designed by the Superintendent of Documents. The personnel at the Reference and Instruction Service Desk in Haggard 2 will be happy to help you find the material.
Most government documents can be checked out for three weeks.

- Cybercemetery
This website provides permanent public access to the Web sites and publications of defunct U.S. government agencies and commissions.
- Government Publications Access
An index of U.S. government websites arranged by Sudoc numbers, which are used to arrange government publications on the shelf.
- Selected U.S. Government Environmental Webpages
A selection of websites about the environment produced by agencies of the U.S. Government. It lists the main subjects covered by each website and indicates whether it is an agency home page, whether it contains libraries of data, etc.
- White House
The main website for the White House, including links to all cabinet departments and mjor independent agencies.
Collections of Federal Publications
- Congressional Research Service Search Engine
Congressional Research Service (CRS)is a federal agency that provides Congress with authorative, non-partisan report on current topics.
CRS doesn't put their reports online but various organizations do, and the 2Act organization has created this unofficial search engine to locate them.
- Forms.gov
This website contains many of the forms issued or required by the federal government. This includes tax forms, FAFSA forms, Medicare forms, etc.
- GAO Reports
The Government Accountability Office (formerly the General Accounting Office) is the agency Congress uses to assess how well government programs are working. This website contains full-text reports on the Bellingham pipeline incident, Iraq, electronic voting, etc.
- GPO Access (Government Printing Office)
GPO Access is a service of the U.S. Government Printing Office that provides free electronic access to a wealth of important information products produced by the Federal Government. The information provided on this site is the official, published version and the information retrieved from GPO Access can be used without restriction, unless specifically noted. This free service is funded by the Federal Depository Library Program and has grown out of Public Law 103-40, known as the Government Printing Office Electronic Information Enhancement Act of 1993.
- OMB Circulars
The Office of Management and Budget circulars set the rules for federal budget writing, information gathering, etc.

- Bonneville Power Administration
The Bonneville Power Administration, headquartered in Portland, Oregon, is a federal agency under the U.S. Department of Energy. BPA provides electricity for the Pacific Northwest.
- FedBizOpps
The database of federal government procurement opportunities over $25,000.
- Naturalization Page
The Department of Homeland Security's homepage for those seeking information on naturalization, citizenship, Green Cards, etc.
- White House
The main website for the White House, including links to all cabinet departments and mjor independent agencies.
- World Factbook

Check Catalog
The World Fact Book is an annual published by the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States with basic almanac-style information about the various countries of the world. The Fact Book provides a two- to three-page summary of the demographics, location, telecommunications capacity, government, industry, military capability, etc, of all US-recognized countries and territories in the world. Includes maps.

- Active Legislation
The U.S. Senate's list of bills currently under active consideration, arranged by subject.
- A Century of Lawmaking for a New Nation
Offers a documentary record of the Continental Congress, the Constitutional Convention, and the first 20 Congresses of the U.S. (1774-1829). Additional records will be added to span the 42nd U.S. Congress." Produced by the Library of Congress Law Library
- Senate
The official website of the U.S. Senate.
- Thomas
Thomas is the Library of Congress's guide to Congressional activities. It contains the text and status of bills and laws, in some cases back to the 1970s. It also has the text of the Congressional Record back to 1989. It has information on Congressional committees back to 1995.
Laws, Regulations, and Court Decisions
- FindLaw / FindLaw
FindLaw is a Web site that provides access to free legal information, sources and services. The Legal information includes legal search tools, case law (including U.S. Supreme Court decisions back to 1893 and California Supreme Court and Appellate Court decisions back to 1934), legal news, a directory of legal professionals, court forms, real-time SEC filings, community discussion areas and online continuing legal education.

The current federal laws of the United States, arranged by subject. The West Corporation has added annotations about history and court cases to the official publication.
- Federal Administrative Decisions
This webpage links to federal agencies' listings of administrative decisions. These decisions result when an executive agency has a judicial-like function. For example, there are FDA Warning Letters, OSHA Directives, and IRS Written Determinations. The website also links to agencies' Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Reading Rooms.
- Federal register
Published by the Office of the Federal Register, National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), the Federal Register is the official daily publication for rules, proposed rules, and notices of Federal agencies and organizations, as well as executive orders and other presidential documents.
- Regulations.gov
An official website for commenting on proposed federal regulations.
- Federal Court Locator
Villanova University created this website which allows you to find information about any federal court, and to access their legal decisions if they are available to the public online.
- Historic Supreme Court Decisions

Supreme Court cases are searchable by topic, popular title, Supreme Court Justice decisions, and by time period. Traces cases cited in each decision. Available on individual computers within the library.
- LexisONE / Lexis Nexis
This free Internet service provides federal and state appellate cases from 1996-current, a collection of legal forms, and an annotated legal guide with links to websites.
Statistics
- Census Population Schedules / Lopresti, Robert
A finding list for Western's microfiche of Oregon and Washington Census Population Schedules (also known as the enumeration schedules, or federal manuscript census), which list the information about each individual who filled out census forms more than seventy years ago.
- Census Project
A non-profit project to load information about individuals from the pre-1940 Census Population Schedules (also called the enumeration schedules, or federal manuscript census).

This is published every five years, and offers statistics for all states and counties in the United States, and for cities with populations greater than 25,000. Beginning in 1988, brief data are also included for "Minor Civil Divisions" with populations greater than 2,500. Although much of the information comes from the decennial census, other data sources are also used. It covers population, vital statistics, health, employment, income, social welfare, housing, crime, education, government finance, and business. Some rankings tables are also included, covering topics such as counties with the fewest people per square mile, counties with the largest decline in manufacturing, and so on.
- FedStats / FedStats
FedStats provides access to the full range of official statistical information available to the public from the Federal Government. This includes official statistics collected and published by more than 100 Federal agencies.

Statistical Abstract of the U.S. contains a collection of statistical tables on social and economic conditions in the United States with selected international data. Sources include data from the Census Bureau, other Federal agencies, and private organizations. Back issues are available in print form in the Government Documents collection: C 3.134: Tables and information from the years 1995-2002 are available on the web.
