- Searching by Key Word
Words to try along with a country name, region and/or type of site (cave, rockshelter, mound, petroglyphs, village) or name of a specific group or tribe of people (salish, navajo).

- Search for Sites by Country
To locate archaeological sites in Canada and the United States (no particular site) use the following format: province or state followed by the word Antiquities. For example:

Summit

Anthropology Plus combines Anthropological Literature from Harvard University and Anthropological Index from the Royal Anthropological Institute (UK), providing international indexing of journal articles, reports, commentaries, and edited works from the fields of social, cultural, physical, biological, and linguistic anthropology, ethnology, archaeology, material culture, folklore and interdisciplinary studies.

A bibliographic database indexing scholarly literature on the history and culture of the United States and Canada from prehistoric times to the present. The scope includes citations and abstracts of journal articles, dissertations, as well as book and media reviews. 6 Simultaneous Users.

Dates covered: 1971-current

Historical Abstracts Includes abstracts and citations of books, journal articles, books, and dissertations on world history from 1450 to the present, excluding the United States and Canada. JSTOR provides searchable full-text access to backfiles of core scholarly journals in many fields. Select coverage of archaeology and anthropology journals. Site License.
- Web of Science
Dates covered: 1995-current
The Web of Sciences includes three citation indexes: Science Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index and the Arts and Humanities Citation Index. Over 8,000 scholarly, peer-reviewed journals published from 1995 to the present are included in the indexing. Building on the list of cited sources (or footnotes) for each entry, this database can search for works that have cited a specific author or a specific article. Web of Science is also searchable by keyword, author, journal, address and other fields. Coverage includes indexing journal articles in archaeology, geology, and anthropology. Site Reports Published by the United States Government
Federal and state laws that protect the environment include protection for designated archaeological sites. As a result the government is involved in managing archaeological sites on federal and state lands such as parks and forests. Construction projects often require archaeological surveys to locate prehistoric or historic sites and the excavation of some sites before construction is allowed to begin. Many of these sites can be found with the search techniques in this guide. You can also use the following U.S. Government database to locate site reports.
- GPO Monthly Catalog (Government Printing Office)
Dates covered: 1976-current
Indexes congressional committee reports, hearings, debates, and documents from executive departments, and more. Retrospective coverage by the print edition of the Monthly Catalog of Government Publications from 1900 to date is available in the Government Information area. - Crow Canyon Archaeological Center. Site Reports and Databases
The Crow Canyon Archaeological Center, located in southwestern Colorado, is dedicated to understanding, teaching, and preserving the rich history of the ancestral Pueblo Indians (also called the Anasazi) who inhabited the canyons and mesas of the Mesa Verde region more than 700 years ago. This site provides access to site reports and research.
- National Archeological Database
The National Archeological Database, Reports module, is an expanded bibliographic inventory of over 350,000 reports on archeological investigation and planning, mostly of limited circulation. This "grey literature" represents a large portion of theprimary information available on archeological sites in the U.S. NADB-Reports can be searched by the variety of fields you see on your right. NADB-Reports was updated in August 2004.
