Locating Materials at Western Libraries
Access the Library Catalog to search for books and other materials on your topic.
- To find lesson plans:

Select: Keyword for a word search.

Enter: "lesson plans" in the search box. (This will include some KCDL materials on microfiche included in our catalog.)
- To find research, planning, studies and other information on curriculum:
-
Select: Subject search.
-
Enter: LC subject heading. Examples: curricula, education-curricula, curriculum planning

Limit: type in a content area in the Words in the subject search field box, e.g. "mathematics" or "science".
- To find materials in the Curriculum Collection
(See the section below on the Curriculum Collection for more information.)

Select: Keyword or Subject search.

Enter: your topic or LC subject heading.

Limit: choose Curriculum Collection in the WHERE Item is located box.

Curriculum Collection at Western
Western Libraries maintains a collection of curriculum materials on all subjects for teaching at the elementary and secondary levels. The collection is geared primarily toward curriculum support for students enrolled in the Woodring College of Education. These materials are available for check-out and are located in Wilson 4 East.
- The Curriculum Collection uses specialized cataloging and call numbering:

- To find materials in the Curriculum Collection, use the Library Catalog:

Select: Keyword or Subject search.

Enter: your topic or LC subject heading.

Limit: choose Curriculum Collection in the WHERE Item is located box.

Select: Other for a call number search.

Under Call Number Search, choose Other Call Number

Enter: "curric" in the search box

Limit: type in the subject area in Words in the subject search field box, e.g. "mathematics" or "science".

Kraus Curriculum Development Library (KCDL)
A collection of annually updated curriculum guides from all over North America. Guides include kindergarten through adult basic education. Access is by subject and grade level. Indexes to the materials are kept on shelving in Wilson-2W. KCDL materials are available on microfiche in Wilson 2 West.
- KCDLonline (Kraus Curriculum Development Library)
Provides online access to more than 300 full-text curriculum documents that make up the 20th Edition of the Kraus Curriculum development Library. It also allows you to search through detailed descriptions of nearly 4500 curricula and standards dating back as far as 1983.

Finding Articles
Use an abstract, index or database to find articles about curriculum topics. Here are some recommendations:
- Academic Search Complete (EBSCO)
Academic Search Complete is a scholarly, multi-disciplinary full-text database, with more than 5,500 full-text periodicals, including more than 4,600 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 9,500 journals and a total of more than 10,000 publications including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc. The database features PDF content going back as far as 1887, with the majority of full text titles in native (searchable) PDF format. Searchable cited references are provided for nearly 1,000 journals.
- Education Abstracts
Dates covered: 1983-current
Education Abstracts, produced by the H.W. Wilson Company, is a bibliographic database that indexes and abstracts articles of at least one column in length from English-language periodicals and yearbooks published in the United States and elsewhere. English-language books relating to education published in 1995 or later are indexed.
- ERIC - Cambridge Scientific Abstracts
Dates covered: 1966-current
ERIC is the largest education database in the world providing indexing and abstracts of all types of materials including journal articles, government documents, books, dissertations, and unpublished materials such as curriculum guides, research reports and conference papers in education and related topics in the social sciences. Many ERIC documents published between 1993 and 2004 are now available online full text. Most ERIC documents published from 1966-1993 are available in the ERIC Microfiche collection on Wilson 2 West. - Exceptional Child Education Resources

Dates covered: 1977-current
Extensive coverage of the world's literature in special education and gifted education.

This index of over 260 titles from the most popular teacher and administrator trade journals, periodicals, and books is now also offered free via the EBSCOhost platform. This database provides coverage on key education topics such as Assessment, Continuing Education, Current Pedagogical Research, Curriculum Development, Instructional Media, Language Arts, Literacy Standards, Science & Mathematics, and more for K-12 Teachers & Librarians.

Through The Educator's Reference Desk (http://www.eduref.org) you can access AskERIC's 2,000+ lesson plans, 3,000+ links to online education information, and 200+ question archive responses.
