Renew Books/Videos you have checked out (EESP)

If you have books checked out from Western or from one of the Orbis-Cascade (Summit) libraries or from another library and you need to keep them a little longer, you can usually renew books you have checked online. You may renew books up to 3 days before the due date. If you try to renew too soon, your request cannot be processed. Most books can be renewed twice, unless another user is waiting for the item.

To request a renewal

Look at the white label or strip of paper wrapped around the cover of the book.

  • If the strip says Orbis-Cascade Alliance at the top, then you can renew the book through your library patron record.

  • If the strip does NOT say Orbis-Cascade Alliance at the top, you have an Interlibrary Loan book and you must request the renewal from the Interlibrary Loan department. Please go to your Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery account instead.

To renew a Western or Orbis-Cascade Alliance book, begin at the Western Libraries home page.

  1. Choose Books & more (Library Catalog) in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
  2. Choose Renew materials/Access your library record.
  3. Enter your last name, Western ID # and PIN (usually the first six digits of your social security number).
  4. Click on Submit.
  5. Click on the check box to the left of the item you want to renew. Then click on the Renew selected items button. .
  6. When you renew materials online, please verify that each renewal is acknowledged by the system. Check the STATUS column to make sure you have a new due date. If the book cannot renewed, you will see a message here telling you the item cannot be renewed. Please return the item as soon as possible to avoid overdue items.

If you need help renewing WWU or Summit materials or have questions about fines, please contact the Circulation Department at (360) 650-3084.
