Plagiarism: Prevention Strategies for Faculty

"Fostering Critical Thinking and Helping Students Avoid Plagiarism"

On April 30th 2008, Western Libraries held a forum for faculty and staff on preventing student plagiarism. Three faculty members, James Inverarity, Mary Janell Metzger, and David Wallin discussed causes of, and methods of preventing, plagiarism, which are useful to faculty who teach writing courses. Katie Liebenstein provided a student perspective on the problem. Additional forum & faculty biographical information

This guide lists WWU policies on plagiarism, and selected resources to help identify & detect plagiarism and assist student learning. Many of the websites other than those created by the Library were identified by the WWU Committee on Academic Dishonesty (2002) or presented in the ACRL e-Learning webcast, "The Role of the Librarian in Combating Student Plagiarism" offered in 2007-2008.
