Western Libraries Web Site
The Western Libraries Web site consists of:
  • The Library Catalog. Find books, journals, videos and other resources in the Western Library collections. This also allows you to connect to the Summit Catalog. It also provides connections to the interlibrary loan system ILLiad.
  • Access to databases which WWU has licensed to use on their campus. Choose subject for a list of key resources in your area.
  • Research Assistance. This provides links to library instruction, to Internet Search engines and to email reference. It also provides an extensive array of general and subject based bibliographies available online or in print.
  • About us. This provides you with information on other library services, library hours, etc.

Indexes to Journals
  • EBSCO - Academic Search Complete
    Academic Search Complete is a scholarly, multi-disciplinary full-text database, with more than 5,500 full-text periodicals, including more than 4,600 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 9,500 journals and a total of more than 10,000 publications including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc. The database features PDF content going back as far as 1887, with the majority of full text titles in native (searchable) PDF format. Searchable cited references are provided for nearly 1,000 journals.
  • Scifinder Scholar
    SciFinder Scholar is a software package for searching the Chemical Abstracts Service. SciFinder Scholar is available only for Western students, faculty, and staff. Access to Chemical Abstracts is limited, please logoff when you are finshed searching. Sessions are ended automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity. To obtain SciFinder Scholar 2004, read the User Agreement. After accepting the conditions of the agreement, you may download the SciFinder Scholar client software. 3 Libraries Share 2 Simultaneous Users.
  • Web of Science
    • Dates covered: 1995-current
    The Web of Sciences includes three citation indexes: Science Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index and the Arts and Humanities Citation Index. Over 8,000 scholarly, peer-reviewed journals published from 1995 to the present are included in the indexing. Building on the list of cited sources (or footnotes) for each entry, this database can search for works that have cited a specific author or a specific article. Web of Science is also searchable by keyword, author, journal, address and other fields. Consortium (12 Libraries) Share 15 Simultaneous Users.
  • ANTE: Abstracts in New Technologies and Engineering
    • Dates covered: 1981-current
    ANTE: Abstracts in New Technologies and Engineering is an abstracting and indexing service monitoring approximately 350 academic and trade publications from the U.K. and the U.S. Coverage includes new technologies such as information technology and computing, electronics, biotechnology, medical technology, as well as engineering (including construction, electrical and chemical engineering) and allied subject areas. Abstracts are available from January 1993 to the present. Site License.
  • Article First
    • Dates covered: 1990-current
    Contains bibliographic citations that describe items listed on the table of contents pages for more than 13,000 journals in science, technology, medicine, social science, business, the humanities, and popular culture. Consortium Shares 20 Users.
  • Ei Compendex
    The Ei Compendex® database is the machine-readable version of Engineering Index, which provides abstracted information from the world's significant engineering and technological literature. Ei Compendex provides worldwide coverage of more than 4,500 journals and selected government reports and books. Subjects include: civil, energy, environmental, geological, and biological engineering; electrical, electronics, and control engineering; chemical, mining, metals, and fuel engineering; mechanical, automotive, nuclear, and aerospace engineering; computers, robotics, and industrial robots.

  • INSPEC
    Inspec (The Database for Physics, Electronics and Computing) includes the three Science Abstracts print abstract journal publications: Physics Abstracts, Electrical and Electronics Abstracts, and Computer and Control Abstracts, which began publication in 1898, and two other technology areas: Information Technology for Business, Manufacturing, & Production and Mechanical Engineering.

  • Annual Reviews Online: Physical Chemistry
    • Dates covered: 1984-current
    Annual comprehensive literature reviews that identify the major contributions to primary research in physical chemistry. Site License.
