Drake Sarah Anne Drake, Nineteenth Cent. Botanical Artist

Miss Drake produced over 1,250 watercolors for Edward's Botanical Register between 1831 and 1847. Little was known about this prolific artist other than her surname and a vague relationship with the family of the English botanist John Lindley.

New research into letters and other papers of the Lindley family discovered far from her home in the British Columbia Archives in Victoria, disclose some details of her life and her complete name. This display is illustrated with copies of her plates from the Register digitized by the Missouri Botanical Garden Library with public access provided through Botanicus, an encyclopedia of digitized 18th and 19th century botanical literature.

The Exhibit is located in the North hall of Wilson Library, near the Media Desk. The Exhibit was prepared by Julene Sodt.
