  16. Narrative Statement:
  17. The areas of the collection represented by Agriculture are all weak, with the following exceptions: There is an ongoing attempt to collect in areas of genetic engineering, or bioengineering, with regard to Agriculture; and there is an attempt to collect material that relates to the politics of Agriculture, both on a national and international scale. I assume that the environmental aspects of Agriculture are collected by the Environmental Sciences librarian, to whatever extent possible. Since there are no programs of Agriculture, Forestry or Veterinary Medicine at this university, these collections receive little attention. This is complicated by the lack of Biology funds for book materials, since Biology would be the primary provider of funding for purchase in this area. The collection does benefit enormously from the acquisition of both state and federal government documents, few of which are reflected in this breakdown by call number.

The primary database for Agriculture is Agricola, a free database provided by the National Agriculture Library of the USDA. The CSA Biological and Medical Databases also provide access to maaterials in this field, as does Environmental Abstracts. Political and social aspects of this field can be found in PAIS and ProQuest. And Hunting Sports, which to my mind does not really belong here, is indexed primarily by Sport Discus.
