The Collection is designed to support the curricular and ressearch needs of the Department of Art programs in four interrelated areas: art studio, design,l art education and art history. Courses are offered on art education, art history, art theory and criticism, ceramics, design production, drawing, fibers/fabrics, graphic design, new media, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture.
The Department of Art offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in art studio, design and art history, a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in art is available in art studio and design, and a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree through Woodring College of Education.

Geographical: U.S., U.S. and Canada, Europe, and East Asia, South Asia, Far East, Australia/New Zealand. In general there are no restrictions if the subject matter is related to course offerings.
Language: Codes E and F. (English primarily, selected foreign language materials.)
Chronological Limitations: All periods of art history are covered; emphasis on art of the Western World (Medieval, Renaissance, 19th and 20th Centuries), Asia and the Pacific.
Scholarly treatment generally, textbooks are rarely purchased and coffee table books selectively (mainly for quality of illustrations and text). Materials are selected in art education, art history, art theory and criticism, ceramics, design production, drawing, fibers/fabrics, graphic design, new media, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Some technical and career books are acquired selectively.
Monographs and serials are collected, as are journals, microfilms and media, and electronic formats. Videotapes, DVDs, CD-ROMs are selected selectively when requested by faculty to support instruction.
The Slide Library, housed in the Department of Art, maintains slide collections for the teaching of art and art history.
The Alliance lending program via the Summit catalog and the Illiad interlibrary loan program offer important support.
Current subscriptions include: Art Index, The Bibliography of the History of Art, and Grove Art Online. Other useful databases include: Arts & Humanities Citations Index, America: History and Life, and ProQuest 5000 to name a few.
This collection is a well-balanced representation of the range of visual arts.
The Art collection supports research and instruction of the Department of Art, and various other departments and programs including, Liberal Studies, East Asian Studies, History, and Engineering Technology. It contains materials in all formats when requested by faculty for instruction and research needs.
