  3. Academic Departments, Programs, etc.:
  4. The Department of Mathematics offers majors and minors in mathematics, applied mathematics and mathematics education. Combined majors are offered in mathematics and computer science, biology and mathematics, chemistry and mathematics, economics and mathematics, and physics and mathematics. There is a Master Science degree in which there is an emphasis on applied mathematics.

  7. Scope:
  8. PresentDesired
    Scope: Geographic: International no change
    Language: International no change
    Chronological limitations: None no change

  9. Formats collected/Non-Subject Parameters:
  10. The mathematics collection is dominated by journal subscriptions, yet a strong desire for monographs is always present. The mathematics faculty are very helpful when there is a reduction of journal subscriptions to allow for book purchases.

  11. System Coordination and Resource Sharing:
  12. The mathematics faculty use inter-library loan to support their research needs that go beyond the local collection.

  13. Electronic Databases:
  14. The MathSciNet database is the primary source for mathematical literature. The World of Science database, particularly the Science Citation Index section is also used. Occasionally a faculty member will request a search of Science Citation Index in the Dialog Information Service, because in Dialog the product covers back to 1965.

  15. Notable Features:
  16. The mathematics collection has many materials that support K-12 mathematics education. There is cooperation between the librarian for mathematics and the education librarian in the purchasing of materials.

  17. Narrative Statement:
  18. The mathematics collection is very closely watched by the faculty in the mathematics department. Each year the faculty recommend every book to purchase, coordinated by their designated representative. The department asks for the amount of the allocation and provides a list of books that add up to the exact amount.
