The Slavic literature and language collection is designed to support the curricular and research needs of the Russian faculty in the Department of Modern & Classical Languages, Two language minors are offered in Russian and Eurasian Studies. Language courses are offered in elementary and intermediate Russian, Russian phonetics, third-year Russian composition, Russian syntax, and the civilization of Russia as well as an introduction to the nomads of Eurasia, the origins of Europe, and topics in Eurasian studies as part of Eurasian Studies (EUS).

  7. Scope:
  8. Geographic: Russia, but also including other parts of the world, where Russian is spoken and literature is written in Russian.

    Language: The primary language is Russian, with some translations of texts in English. Literary criticism is principally in English.

    Chronological Limitations: None: collection represents arliest times to the present.

  9. Formats collected/Non-Subject Parameters:
  10. Explanatory Notes: Monographs and serials are collected, as are journals, microfilms and media, and electronic formats. Videotapes, DVDs, CD-ROMs are purchased selectively when requested by faculty to support instruction and do not duplicate the Language Media Center collection.

  13. Electronic Databases:
  14. Current subscriptions include the Modern Language Association Bibliography and Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts. Other useful databases include: Arts and Humanities Citation Index (part of Web of Science), Historical Abstracts and ProQuest Research Library.

  16. This collection is a well-balanced representation of Russian literature and language for undergraduate use.


  17. Narrative Statement:
  18. The Russian language and literature collection supports research and instruction of the Department of Modern & Classical Languages, and other departments and programs including History and Linguistics. It contains materials in all formats when requested by faculty for instruction and research needs.
