About the Children's Literature
Interdisciplinary Collection
The Children's Literature Interdisciplinary Collection aims provide a research
center for students and faculty at Western Washington University and to be a regional
center for the scholarship of children's literature. We are still
in the planning stages and hope to officially open in the spring of 2008.
The purpose of the Children's Literature Interdisciplinary Collection is:
- to establish a wing of the library that houses a research level collection of
children’s and young adult literature; providing a dynamic space to study,
explore, and examine writing and illustration for child/teenage readers.
- to serve programs and courses at Western Washington University from a variety of
disciplines (i.e., Communication, Art, Education, English, Theatre Arts,
Library Science, and Fairhaven College)
- to provide a regional resource center for the
study of children’s literature. This may be accomplished through the use of
the regional shared catalog, SUMMIT, by the publication and dissemination of
print resources, and via the Web site, as well as through special programming
such as the annual Bond Children's Literature Conference, and featured
author/illustrator events.
