Give advanced notice - Please contact Western libraries at least 2 weeks in
advance of your visit. This will ensure that a librarian or
reference personnel will be scheduled to work with your students, that a meeting
location is available, and that computer terminals will be reserved for your
visit, if required. We may not be able to accommodate a visit on a particular
day, so please have a few potential dates in mind when calling to schedule your
visit.

Consider group size - We recommend a 25 student maximum to minimize the impact visits have on
Western Washington University students, and to provide more focused attention for your students. Consider dividing larger classes into smaller groups, or
selecting those students whose research needs can only be met at an academic library.
Search Western libraries online catalog from home or school - Ask your students to search the catalog prior to coming to Western and identify any sources they might find useful. To learn more about
searching the library catalog, please see our guide. If the students have already identified journal articles they need to locate, ask the students to check the library catalog to see if Western owns the journal.
Please have the students bring along any relevant citations or other
information.
Review the How-to guides- Western Libraries has many how-to guides on
using different resources in the collection as well as research guides and
bibliographies. Please have your students look at the guides and read those that
are relevant to their research.
