Corporate Affiliations

Introduction

Corporate Affiliations, a database produced by LexisNexis Group contains US and international public and private business profiles and corporate linkage ("who owns whom") for approximately 184,000 public and private companies worldwide.

Each record includes the name, address, telephone number, sales, number of employees, SIC codes, business description, executive names, director and key personnel names, corporate family hierarchy such as affiliates, subsidiaries and divisions of each company, ticker symbol, stock exchanges, net worth, total assets, and total liabilities, where available. 

Logging On

From the Western Library homepage, click on Articles; on the  alphabetical list  scroll down and click on Corporate Affiliations

Searching

a) Quick Search

The default search is Quick Search.
This
screen produces a form which allows searching by name (company, personal or product) , geography
(city, state, country), size (number of employees, sales)
or industry (SIC code).

To perform a search, input search terms in the search boxes and/or select items from the drop-down menus or fill in the radio buttons. These searches are all joined by the AND operator.  Click on the Search button to search

b) Advanced Search - click on Advanced Search from the left-hand menu.

The Advanced Search allows you to search on 23 different fields and link four different concepts using 'AND', 'OR', or 'NOT' between your search criteria. Select variables, such as company name, from the left-hand drop-down boxes. Then either type the search words in the box on the right or select values from the drop-down menus on the right (depending on which variables you select). You may also be given a choice of radio buttons. Some options contain a hyperlink “get values” which allow you to find names, codes or numbers. When you have completed your choices click on the Search button to perform the search.

 

Drop down menu items include:

 

c) Inquiry Search - Click on Inquiry from the left-hand menu.

This allows for natural language searching.  Input your question or key word or phrase.  It also allows you to refine your search with follow up questions.

Search Tips

Do not abbreviate company names or geographic locations, except for USA

None of the fields are case sensitive

The wildcard character is symbolized by the '*' character and can be used either at the beginning, middle or at the end of a word:

d) Refining the Search 

Click on the Refine Search button to change your search criteria. Click on Quick Search or Advanced Search from the left-hand menu to clear the previous search and start over.

 

Displaying a Company Record

From the search results list, Click on a company name, or check the boxes next to each of the company names or click on Select All or Deselect All to select or unselect all records.  Click on the links at the bottom of the record to see such categories as Overview, PersonnelOutside Service Firms, Products, and Hierarchy. Click on Back to Search Results to return to the company list.

 

Printing or Downloading Records

Click on Print or Download above the search results list. In the Print window, check off all the items you want to display (including print all companies on a single page). Then click the Print button in the window. This will format all the companies on one screen. Then select Print from the browser menu or choose File, Print from the browser menu. From the File Download window, click on Save and choose a location (from the Save in menu) and name for the file (in the File name box).

Finding Help

For help searching Corporate Affiliations, click on Search Instructions from the left-hand menu.

Logging Out

To log out, click on Home/Logout at the top left of the Corporate Affiliations screen.
