HubMed (PubMed Rewired) - An alternative Medline Search Engine.
Medem Network Medical Library - established by seven professional medical associations including the AMA.
MedicineNet Medical Dictionary - Extensive, authoritative hyperlinked dictionary of medical terms. Fully searchable.
Medical History through the National Library of Medicine.
National Center for Health Statistics - This is the primary agency and source of American health statistics.
Consumer's Checkbook -- Doctor Competency. - A recommended site that offers information regarding physician disciplinary action. Basic information is free, supplemental information may cost.
Health on the Net Foundation - This site, sponsored by a non-profit Health Group, will help you assess if a Web site follows the ethical principles highlighted by HONcode.
Databases:
PubMed is a free service of the National Library of Medicine, includes over 15 million citations for biomedical articles back to the 1950's. These citations are from MEDLINE and additional life science journals. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources.
Health Consequences of Smoking - Database has been developed in collaboration with the Institute for Global Tobacco Control at the Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Office on Smoking and Health. The database includes abstracts of more than 1,600 key articles cited in the 2004 Surgeon General's Report: The Health Consequences of Smoking.

Center for Research on Occupational and Environmental Toxicology (CROET ) - Although this site is Oregon specific, there is a wide range of subject-specific information here.
Centers for Disease Control (CDC) - A vast electronic library of health and medical information. Particularly good for infectious disease, travel and statistical information.
Center for Healthy Aging - encourages and assists community-based organizations serving older adults to develop and implement evidence-based health promotion/ disease prevention programs.
Center for Infectious disease research & policy - is a member of the Consortium on Law and Values in Health, Environment & the Life Sciences, which aims to support work on the legal, ethical, and policy implications of problems in health, environment, and the life sciences. The Consortium coordinates among and builds on the strength of 17 centers and programs at the University of Minnesota.
ConsumerLab - An independent testing organization that compares contents, particularly of herbals, between brands. There is a lot of variability.

MedlinePlus has extensive information from the National Institutes of Health and other
trusted sources on over 700 diseases and conditions. There are also lists of
hospitals and physicians, a medical encyclopedia and a medical dictionary,
health information in Spanish, extensive information on prescription and
nonprescription drugs, health information from the media, and links to thousands
of clinical trials. MedlinePlus is updated daily. There is no advertising on
this site, nor does MedlinePlus endorse any company or product.
MedScape - A favorite of MDs. Also the sponsor of CBS HealthWatch.
MedWeb - Hosted by the Health Sciences Library at Emory
University MedWeb organizes and permits searching of biomedical
information on the Web. A stellar and highly reputable site.
Menopause/Hormone Replacement - This site is hosted by the FDA, and
contains up-to-date information on hormone replacement therapy for treating the
symptoms of menopause.
Mental Help Net - a free service to mental health care professionals and laypersons. The information is valid and valuable, the barrage of ads, annoying.
National Center for Environmental Health - a branch of the CDC that contains numerous data resources concerning environmental health. Includes disaster resources.
National Council on Patient Information and Education - This site provides direct links to timely, authoritative guidelines, tips and resources to help people use medicines (prescription and over-the-counter) safely and appropriately.
National Institute of Health - Publications & fact sheets, Clinical Trials, health hotlines, A-Z topic index, MEDLINEplus, other resources.
NutritionData (ND) generates nutrition facts labels and provides
simplified nutritional analyses for all foods and recipes.
