Kandinsky The Western Libraries       Iconography: A Guide to Resources
Iconography is defined as the study of traditional images or symbols; or the study and interpretation of representation by pictures or images, either individual or symbolic, religious or secular.

Understanding the art and artist in historical and cultural context, as well as the styles, trends, characteristics and design elements common within specific art movements, will assist in looking at, and interpreting art. This research guide is designed to lead you to selected resources both in the library and on the Internet, which provide an overview of the use and interpretation of symbols in art.
