After an elaborate celebration, they run a race pursued by young men and their leader, representing a mythological personage who is armed with sticks. This documentary is about the NGO Forum in Huairou. "I'm a femenist media maker and educator. I went to Beijing with the purpose of making an independent video documentary of the forum from women's perspectives. Pacific Women Exploring Nonviolence HM886 .P33 2004 Begins with an explanation of the East Timorese struggle for independence and the current post-conflict situation. Under Indonesian military occupation almost a third of the population died. Some 85 per cent of the country's infrastructure was destroyed when Indonesian forces withdrew after a referendum on autonomy. The killings left many women as widows. Women have since formed a variety of groups that struggle both for livelihood and for justice. The video portrays several such groups. The participants tell similar stories of sexual violence, of giving birth while running from soldiers, and of survival. The video's last section highlights Pacific women's actions for peace, and their ideas about justice and nonviolence.
