The Special Collections Children's Collection contains books and other materials written for children that are
considered rare, scarce, or unique. Resources in the Children's Collection may be used in the Special Collections
research area.
Use the links at left to access lists of the holdings of the Children's Collection, arranged by title or by date of
publication.
Highlights of the collection include an early 20th century Russian children's encyclopedia; a children's grammar in
Ket; titles in Norwegian, Russian, Hungarian, Finnish, and Czech; and a large collection of U.S. children's books
published in the 1930s and 1940s, including numerous mysteries written especially for girls.
The Special Collections Children's Collection complements the
Children's Literature Interdisciplinary Collection
and the
Helene Whitson Collection
of unique format children's books. It has been developed primarily through
donations. We welcome the opportunity to consider gifts for the collection. For information about donation,
