From its beginnings in 1899 until closure in 1967, the Campus School at Western, also known as the Model School and the Training School, provided unique educational and life experiences for students and student-educators alike.
The Campus School Memories Project is an ongoing initiative of Western Washington University Libraries Special Collections, seeking reminiscences, photographs, and memorabilia for the Campus School Collection in Special Collections. Photographs and memorabilia from the 1950s and 1960s are especially needed.
We ask interested alumni, teachers, student teachers, and parents of Campus School students to complete one of our questionnaires. Your responses are key to the success of our project and the comprehensiveness of the collection.
Enjoy our Photo Gallery, featuring images of the School across the decades as well as pictures of the opening of the exhibit "Teaching Learning-Learning Teaching: The Campus School, 1899-1967," displayed at the Whatcom Museum of History & Art, June-October 2007. There are also pictures of both the 1993 and 2007 Campus School reunions, links to the texts of oral histories we've completed so far, and issues of our newsletter, The Campus Schooler. Use our "Contact Us" email link to talk to us; we'd love to hear from you!
