Russell F. Burmester Collection

Western Collection: Burmester, R.  and VF

Biographical Note

A scholar of geology, specializing in research in the areas of paleomagnetism, tectonics, geophysics, and geologic mapping, Russell F. Burmester was educated at Stanford University (BS), the University of Texas, Austin (MA), and Princeton University (PhD, 1974). His doctoral dissertation was entitled Utility of Granitic Rocks for Paleomagnetic Research with an Example from the Sierra Nevada of California. A frequent contributor to the literature of his specialities, Dr. Burmester has held an appointment as a Research Associate at Western Washington University since 1978.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of maps, off-prints and photocopies of articles, and other published contributions in the fields of paleomagnetism, tectonics, and geophysics. The collection is ongoing, with the first work published in 1981.

Notes on Arrangement

The maps in the Russell F. Burmester Collection are shelved under "Burmester" in The Western Collections stacks area, sub-arranged by title. Additional copies of individual map titles may also be available in the Libraries' circulating collection; search the library catalog by author or title for more information.

Other material in the collection is organized into folders. Items are ordered chronologically by date of publication, sub-arranged alphabetically by title when items share a common publication date. The arrangement is by Special Collections.

The collection is the ongoing gift of Russell F. Burmester to Special Collections for The Western Collection.
