Western Collection: Easterbrook, D. J. and Easterbrook, D. J. (Box)

Biographical Note

A teacher and scholar of geology, specializing in glacial geology, Don J. Easterbrook was born January 29, 1935, in Sumas, Washington. He was educated at the University of Washington, where he received the BS in 1958, the MS in 1959, and the PhD (Geology) in 1962. His doctoral dissertation was entitled Pleistocene Geology of the Northern Part of the Puget Lowland, Washington. Dr. Easterbrook's research activities in glacial geology include abrupt Pleistocene, global, climatic changes and their relationship to the cause of ice ages; Pleistocene geochronology; and 14C and cosmogenic dating of glaciations in the Pacific Northwest, New Zealand, and the Argentine Andes. Other research interests include debris torrents, giant landslides, seismically triggered landslides, and volcanic mudflows. A member of the faculty of the Geology department of Western Washington University from 1959 to 1997, Dr. Easterbrook was honored on his retirement with the title Professor Emeritus of Geology.

Scope and Contents Note

The collection consists of books, maps, articles, chapters, abstracts, and other contributions primarily in the field of glacial geology. The collection is ongoing, with the first item published in 1963. Includes list, "D. J. Easterbrook Publications," received January 31, 2005.
