Western Collection: Morse, K. (Box)

Biographical Note

A teacher and scholar of inorganic chemistry, specializing in the study of boron and phosphorus compounds, and a higher education administrator, Karen W. Morse was born on May 8, 1940, in Monroe, Michigan. She was educated at Denison University (B.S., 1962) and the University of Michigan (M.S., 1964; PhD, 1967). Her doctoral dissertation was entitled Reactions of the Borane Group as a Lewis Acid. Dr. Morse was employed as a Research Chemist at the U. S. Army Ballistic Research Laboratory at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland from 1966 to 1968, when she was appointed to the faculty of the department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Utah State University where she attained the rank of Professor in 1983. She served as Head of the department of Chemistry and Biochemistry from 1981 to 1988, when she was appointed Dean of the College of Science. From 1989 to 1993, she served as Provost of Utah State University. Since 1993, Dr. Morse has served as President of Western Washington University in Bellingham, where she also holds an academic appointment as Professor of Chemistry. Her research interests include new and biologically important hydroborates and their derivatives, including boron derivatives of agricultural importance, and in particular structure, bonding, and related reactivity.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of off-prints and photocopies of articles, chapters, other published contributions, and the texts of patents in the field of inorganic chemistry, with an emphasis on study of boron and phosphorus compounds, and a copy of Dr. Morse's curriculum vita dated August 9, 2000. The collection is ongoing, with the first work published in 1967.

Notes on Arrangement
