Special Collections Western Libraries WWU Rare Books Collection

The Rare Book Collection contains materials considered rare or in need of special care due to age and/or condition or other factors contributing to uniqueness. Materials in the Rare Books Collecton may be used in the Special Collections research area.

Use the links at left to access lists of the holdings of the Rare Book Collection, arranged by title or by date of publication.

Highlights of the collection include a number of scarce works in Chinese, Russian, and Mongolian. There are also important early works about Bellingham, Whatcom County, Washington State, and the Pacific Northwest, and a selection of limited-issue 20th century Canadian literary works, especially poetry, with an emphasis on British Columbia authors.

The Rare Book Collection has been developed primarily through donations. We welcome the opportunity to consider gifts to the collection, particulary works in the areas of Northwest exploration and history; local history; and China, Mongolia, and the Russian Far East.
