Using Special Collections

Special Collections welcomes all members of the University community, researchers from other institutions, and members of the local community during our business hours, or by appointment. Staff assistance is required.

Picture I.D. required.

In-house use:

Special Collections, located on Wilson Library Sixth Floor, offers space for the use of Special Collections materials.

We require researchers to leave coats, bags, briefcases on the racks or in the lockers provided.

We ask users of Special Collections materials to make notes using pencil only.

Telephone or e-mail assistance:

We provide assistance via telephone and email. Phone 360-650-3193. Email: WWU Libraries Special Collections. We reserve the right to limit the amount of time we allocate to providing assistance via telephone and/or email.

Use of photographs:

Use of photographs housed in Special Collections is governed by the Western Washington University Libraries Special Collections License for Use of Reproductions. Please call 360-650-3193 or send email to WWU Libraries Special Collections for information about photograph use and the required license.

Note: We charge image copying and use fees.

Class Use:

We welcome use of the collections by classes. All such use takes place in the Special Collections research area. Please call us at 360-650-3193 (on-campus extension 3193) or send email to WWU Libraries Special Collections in advance.


Photocopying of some materials may be restricted. We do not permit photocopying of photographs.
